Aerosmith from Greatest Rock Bands of All Time
Aerosmith is an American rock band, sometimes referred to as "the Bad Boys from Boston" and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band". Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of pop, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues, and has inspired many subsequent rock artists.

Undoubtabley a hit based band, with some excellent singles and hits, it's just a shame their albums never maintain that consistency.
Not particularly fussed on much post "Pump" but their 70s and to a lesser extent 80s stuff puts them up there with the greats.
Not an album band, but still make cool albums. Nonetheless, Rocks, Toys In the Attic and a few others are favourites of mine.
Best band in the 70's period.
For American rock bands I like Nirvana and Van Halen a little more because they changed rock, but Aerosmith probably made as many great songs as either of them. One of the top 3-5 American rocks bands for sure, even though they're mostly raunchy British sounding blues.
I used to love Aerosmith when I was a teenager, and how not to, when they started working with guys like Desmond Child and Bruce Fairbairne, they just exploded, making hit song after hit song particularly in their Geffen period (Permanent Vacation, Pum & Get a grip). However as time went by I realized that with the exception of Rocks (which is far better than Toys In The Attic), the band has never recorded a true quality album with which they can claim a place in the pantheon of legends. They are a solid band in general and very successful comercialy but at some point they sound a bit shallow. In recent years some of their strongest work comes from ballads and when a band directs theirselves that way it usually means they stopped trying. This aside, Rocks is one of the roghest, grittiest, dirtiest rocknroll albums ever recorded and the proof that, have these guys not lost perspective, they had all the elements to have done something trully remarkable...
I really like Aerosmith but Toys apart, they haven't produced a truely great album so don't stand comparison with the true rock great like Jimi, Sabbath or Zeppelin.
