Saffron from Top Luxury Foods
The most expensive spice in the world was named after the plant from which it originates – the Saffron Crocus, which blooms for only two weeks per year. Since only the stigmas of each flower are picked, dried and used for this spice, it takes several hundreds of flowers to get only one gram of it. Depending on the period of the year, its price varies from $500 to $5,000 per pound.
